Taylor Swift Reveals Her Mother Has Cancer

The singer says the illness was discovered in a check-up, as she urges fans to seek health screening for their own parents.
Pop star Taylor Swift has revealed her mother has cancer.
The singer said in a message on Tumblr she asked 57-year-old Andrea Swift to go for health screening as a Christmas gift to her "just to ease some worries of mine".
"There were no red flags and she felt perfectly fine, but she did it just to get me and my brother (Austin) off her case about it," the 25-year-old wrote.

"The results came in, and I'm saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer. I'd like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know.
"She wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they've got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle."

The singer, who has won seven Grammy Awards, has spoken in the past of her close relationship with her mother, who often accompanies her on tour.
Swift's song The Best Day, which appears on her second studio album Fearless, is a loving tribute to the woman she has called her best friend.
